Travel back in time and discover how our lives today compare to living long ago. Learn what life was like in Tudor England through exploring the manor, handling replica objects and playing with Tudor toys and games.

Bugs and Buds

 Discover the hidden world of creepy crawlies and the wonderful world of plants in Sulgrave Manor’s garden using  Science, English and Art.  Students will also plant their own seed to take back to school and watch grow.

Rich and Poor

Learn to write with quill and ink

What was it like to live at Sulgrave Manor during the 16th Century? Explore the manor and use replica objects to investigate how life was different for the Washington family and the people who served them.

The Rich half of our workshop has a choice of two activities:

  • Tudor Schooling - Discover what Tudor schools were like and experiment with Quill & ink. 
  • Mummers Play -  A drama based activity that allows students to build confidence in a beautiful setting of play historically performed at Sulgrave Manor

Life at home and at Sea

Wool was one of England’s most important exports. Discover more about the sailors and explorers who would have traded Lawrence Washington’s wool and how their life on a Tudor ship compared to the lives of the Washington family at home at Sulgrave Manor.
