| Sally
Cunningham
According to Sally's mum she grew her first radishes
at the age of 2½ and she hasn't stopped since.
Now living in a small village in not-so-rural Leicestershire
close to a huge quarry with a small plant-infested back
garden and a very productive allotment where she grows
fruit and hens as well as veg, she describes herself
as "a freelance horticultural consultant/gardener,
as this covers a multitude of sins....!" She is
a wildlife and butterfly recorder and was the youngest
ever Flora recorder for Wiltshire Wildlife Trust at
age of 14.
Sally is a lifetime professional gardener with Dip Hort
RHS; she also studied at Askham Bryan and Lackham colleges.
She has worked in variety of places from Leicestershire
Museums to Leicester Botanic and Ryton Organic Gardens
(2 years as horticultural advisor, 4 years as deputy
head gardener), as an outreach worker for Kew's Plantcultures
website project and she has also worked with community
allotment groups, city farms, garden centres, nursuries
and private gardens. She runs courses for Garden Organic
(where a new 'Starting an organic allotment course begins
in February), Leicestershire museums, community allotments.
She writes for various magazines including The Organic
Way, BBC Wildlife magazine, Organic Living etc and is
the author of soon-to-be-published 'South Asian Vegetables'
hopefully launched in late March.
