Apple
Day 2007
The Green Man.
|
Apple Day has always been special to Sulgrave
Manor. It has been held there for many years, attracting,
on average, more than a thousand visitors for the apple
extravaganza annually. From watching the apple pressing
through to browsing in the Apple Identification tent,
every aspect of this most British of fruits was celebrated
and enjoyed.
The small orchard comes alive with the sights,
sounds and smells of traditional apple crafts. Adults
seeking answers to the question "what is this apple
tree I have in my garden?" can take advice from the
apple identifiers or find the same one themselves in the
display of over 350 different varieties on show.
Other country crafts such as caning, thatching and hurdling,
bring home how manufacturing has changed over the centuries.
A games and fun marquee provide diversions, with traditional
entertainment from the Green Man and from the Adderbury
Morris Dancers, games and quizzes for the children.. With
many of the attractions under cover, it all adds up to
a splendid country day out - whatever the weather.
