Sulgrave Manor - an ideal stopover... a perfect visit

7 miles from J11 of M40; 12 miles from J15A of the M1 in the middle of the diamond formed by the A423, A5, A43 and A422 Sulgrave is the ideal place to break cross country journeys.

25 miles from Warwick, 32 miles from Stratford, 33 miles from Oxford, Sulgrave is superb for secondary stops, coffee and loo breaks with the option of a special half hour tour of the house or just a garden wander.

At the heart of a range of different attractions, Sulgrave can be part of a varied tour, providing, even for the regular sight-seer, new experiences within short distances in this little known corner of England.

Of special interest to:

Americans - As the ancestral home of their first President, George Washington, Sulgrave offers USA visitors a sense of pilgrimage to their country's roots. Tours can be led by 'Lawrence Washington' - the ancestor who built the house. Independence Day (July 4th) is celebrated with a feast of Americana.

Embroiderers - The New Elizabethan Embroideries display eight years work by 500 British and American stitchers producing the splendid modern centrepiece of a collection of historic textiles. The New Elizabethan Embroideries are well-known to this interest group through extensive coverage in specialist magazines. (Tours primarily interested in the embroideries should check that they will be on display on the chosen date, as they are occasionally 'rested' to maintain their good condition).

Gardeners - The lovely gardens include herbaceous borders, an knot garden with traditional herbs, an orchard underplanted with thousands of daffodils, lawns, yew hedges and topiary. Herbs and unusual perennials are sold in the courtyard from Easter to September.

Herb enthusiasts - Housing the headquarters of the National Society of Herbs, the Sulgrave gardens host the National Herb Garden and their Chelsea prize winning exhibit.
